The National Cyber Security Centre has released a brief update on the Cyber Security and Resilience (CS&R) Bill as announced in the King’s speech on 17th July 2024. This Bill aims to enhance and modernise our existing cyber security laws, which are based on outdated EU regulations. The goal is to fortify the UK’s economy and infrastructure, making them less susceptible to threats and major incidents.
Here are the thoughts of our Technical Director, David Moffatt:
“The driving force behind the implementation of the CS&R Bill is the alarming increase in cyber-attacks against the UK, which are estimated to cost the country £27bn annually.

Particularly concerning are the attacks targeting the UK’s critical public services. A recent example of such threats is the ransomware attack on London hospitals in June, which was declared a critical incident. This attack significantly disrupted hospital services and functions for several days. Incidents like this underscore the urgent need to update our cyber security legislation to better protect our infrastructure and services from new and evolving cyber threats.”
