Company: Evolve North Ltd
Role: Cyber Essentials Assessor
Employment Type: Full Time or Part Time
Salary: Subject to experience
Location: Remote Working (UK or Crown Dependencies based)
Reporting: Technical Director

The Company

Evolve North is a specialist information security, cyber resilience and information governance consultancy supporting organisations across regulated public and private sectors. We are seeking an assessor to join our established Cyber Essentials team, delivering Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus assessments to a diverse client base.

The Role

The successful candidate will join an existing team of Cyber Essentials assessors, carrying out Cyber Essentials (CE) and Cyber Essentials Plus (CE Plus) assessments against the current NCSC requirements. This includes reviewing self-assessment questionnaire submissions, verifying technical controls, identifying areas of non-compliance, and producing clear, accurate assessment reports.

For CE Plus assessments, you will conduct hands-on technical verification of controls including patch management, access control, malware protection, firewall configuration, and security update management across client environments. You will need to communicate findings to clients in a way that is clear and constructive, helping them understand what is required to meet certification and how to address any gaps.

The ideal candidate will already hold a qualified Cyber Essentials assessor certification. However, for the right person who is able to meet the IASME requirements to become a Cyber Essentials assessor, we will support you through the certification process. We will also support your development towards becoming a CE Plus assessor if you are not already qualified at that level.

Location and eligibility

This is a remote role, but you must be based in the UK or the Crown Dependencies. IASME, the NCSC’s Delivery Partner for Cyber Essentials, requires that all Cyber Essentials assessors are based in the UK or Crown Dependencies, so you will need to carry out all assessment work from within these locations. You must also have the right to work in the UK.

Working pattern

This role is available on either a full-time or part-time basis. For part-time arrangements, we would expect the successful candidate to work every weekday, with flexible hours to suit, for example 10am to 3pm. This is to ensure consistent availability for clients and colleagues throughout the working week, as assessments often involve scheduled client contact and time-sensitive follow-up.

You will be expected to manage your own assessment workload, maintain accurate records, and work to the timescales required by the certification body. You will collaborate with colleagues across the consultancy and contribute to maintaining the quality and consistency of our assessment output.

About you

Candidates should have a solid IT background with practical experience across areas such as networking, system administration, or IT support. Familiarity with common operating systems, firewalls, and endpoint security is important. An interest in or existing experience within cyber security is essential. Professional certifications such as CompTIA Security+, SSCP, or equivalent are desirable but not required.

If you are not yet a qualified Cyber Essentials assessor, please note that IASME requires at least three years’ experience in an IT or cyber security role before you can train as an assessor. You will also need to hold a qualifying certification or membership, or pass the IASME Assessor Skills Assessment exam. We can support you through the training and certification process, but you will need to meet these baseline requirements to be eligible.

This role is suited to someone who combines technical knowledge with attention to detail and a methodical approach to assessment work.
